Latar Belakang

"We complete the water cycle"

The Sabah State Sewerage Service Department (JPP Sabah) is one of the state government agencies under the Sabah Ministry of Public Works. Currently JPP Sabah functions under the Sewerage Services Enactment 2017 aimed at regulating domestic sewage waste for the State of Sabah.
There are as many as 340 sewage treatment plants with a total capacity of 992,602PE, 237 pumping stations, 11 oxidation ponds with a total capacity of 86,955PE and 656,684 meters of sewer pipe network operating throughout the state of Sabah and an estimated 780,000 cubic meters of treated wastewater effluent is released every day to protect public health, water resources and the environment.

History

In 1980, the Hydraulic Branch under the Public Works Department was established to manage the engineering of the sewerage system. In 1995, it was named the Training & Technical Services Branch. The Sewerage Branch was established at the end of 2005, it is one of the branches in the Public Works Department (JKR) through a new restructuring that has been implemented by the former Director of Public Works, Datuk Ir Anjin Hj. Inviting He has appointed Ir Paul Thien Su On as the first Chief Assistant Director (KPP) to lead this branch.
The establishment of this branch is intended to focus on the development of the state of Sabah through the development of an appropriate and modern sewerage system to protect the environment from pollution, indirectly it can help protect water resources and improve the standard of public health.
The second Chief Assistant Director is Ir Edward Lingkapo who was appointed from 2011 until 2018. The Sewerage Branch has grown under the leadership of this Chief Assistant Director and now has newly introduced positions namely Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer and Chemical Engineer as well as sewer operator, where This position is required to improve the performance and quality of sewerage services. In 2015, all sewerage assets under the Local Authorities (PBT) throughout Sabah were also gradually taken over by the Public Works Department through the Sewerage Branch. This step is in line with the direction for sewerage services to be regulated under one Agency/Department.
The third Chief Assistant Director is Puan Jennieve Peter who was appointed from 2018 to 2019. She was appointed as Director of JPP Sabah in January 2020 and subsequently JPP Sabah was established in accordance with the approval of the Sewerage Service Enactment 2017 in the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (DUN) on 23 November 2017.
